When a Scottish surveyor passed through the region many years ago, he paused for a well-earned meal on the banks of the Kuruman River. He excavated a hole in the shallow water of the river and commenced fishing. It was aptly named Vischgat in honour of his valiant journey and the land on which the game lodge is located.

Taking the Vanzylsrus road from Askham to Vanzylsrus is 60 km of gravel road and then a further 8 km of transverse dunes to Vischgat Game Lodge. Please note that to reach Vischgat Game Lodge, a 4X2 or 4×4 vehicle is needed. On the loose sand, the tyre pressure should be ±1.2 bar.

Vischgat Game Lodge is an exclusive 14,000-hectare sheep and free-roaming game farm where a separate 5,000 hectares plays host to a variety of game such as gemsbok, springbok, eland, red hartebeest, steenbok, blue wildebeest, duiker and ostrich.

Upon experiencing the red sand of the Kalahari between your toes, your heart will perpetually yearn to explore this desert wonderland. For small groups of up to 20 people, the self-catering lodge is perfect.

There are seven chalets, and the main building has two bedrooms and a bathroom. People staying in the chalets share the kitchen and living room of the main building, which has a 40-inch TV in the lounge. This is perfect for a family or group of friends.
